As Ralph Waldo Emerson, American writer, philosopher and poet, once said, «The earth smiles through flowers.» And so we tell you in this article.

Floral waters, also known as hydrolats or hydrosols, are the result of steam distillation of different parts of plants, herbs and flowers. Through this distillation process, essential oils are also obtained. However, it is important to know how to differentiate floral waters from essential oils.

What is the difference between a hydrolat and an essential oil?

Hydrolats and essential oils come from the same process of steam distillation of the plant, flower or root. This artisanal process begins with the heating of a volume of water until steam is produced, which passes through a vessel containing the herbs, plants or spices to be distilled. This steam will flow into a container that will contain two types of liquid: the essential oil and the plant’s hydrolat, which, being immiscible, will not mix with each other, so they are easily separated.

What differentiates one liquid from another is the concentration. Essential oils have a very high and potent concentration of the flower or plant from which they are extracted. As a result, these oils cannot be applied directly to the skin, as this can be harmful to the skin.

Floral water, on the other hand, has a very low concentration of the active ingredients of the plant or flower, but retains all its properties, so it is harmless to the skin and can be applied directly without causing any harm or damage.

Why choose Tradicity Organic Farm hydrolats?

Our floral waters are different from the rest because of the artisanal process used for their extraction. These flowers, plants and spices are cultivated in the extensive organic fields of the South of France where the climatic conditions are suitable for their growth. The harvesting of these flowers is done by hand because these fields are inaccessible to harvesting machines and tractors.

From Tradicity Organic Farm we want you to enjoy the best quality in natural extracts, therefore, we offer a wide range of floral waters that you can easily incorporate into your beauty treatments providing a naturalness and an incredible concentration that you will notice from the first moment.
